Before becoming an analyst, Woodman spent decades as a high school English teacher. This background in literature provided her with a rich foundation in myth and metaphor, which she later integrated into her psychological practice. Her transition into Jungian analysis was prompted by her own health struggles, which led her to believe that the body often carries the weight of unspoken psychological trauma. The Bridge Between Mind and Body Woodman is perhaps best known for her concept of "Somatic Jungianism."
