The increasing complexity of distributed systems demands more than stateful orchestration — it requires serialized workflows that preserve narrative-like causality across service calls. This paper introduces Serial.WS, a lightweight protocol for embedding sequence identifiers, version stamps, and callback continuity into RESTful and event-driven architectures. We evaluate Serial.WS against workflow engines (Amazon SWF, Temporal) in terms of latency, developer overhead, and debuggability.
