The narrative centers on Rajaram, played with restrained vulnerability by Rahul Bagga. He aspires to be a writer of serious literature, a teller of stories that touch the soul. However, the publishing world of the 80s is uninterested in soul; it is interested in sales. Pressured by a publisher and desperate for income, Rajaram adopts the pen name Mastram. What follows is a Jekyll-and-Hyde transformation. By day, he is the timid, respectful husband and neighbor; by night, he types out stories that ignite the fantasies of a repressed nation.

Mastram is a comedy-drama film that revolves around the life of a middle-aged man, Vijay (played by Rajpal Yadav), who becomes a popular adult film star in the 1990s. The movie explores his journey, from being a small-town boy to becoming a renowned figure in the adult film industry.

Meanwhile, in a different part of the city, a group of friends had gathered at a local café, discussing the latest movies and trends. Among them was a film enthusiast, Rohan, who had stumbled upon Raj's project through a friend. Intrigued by the title and plot, Rohan decided to sneak into the warehouse to catch a glimpse of the filming.
