Prototype 2 is known to crash on startup or during gameplay if your CPU has more than 4-8 physical cores. To fix this, you must limit the number of cores the game uses: Task Manager Method Launch the game. Immediately out and open Task Manager Ctrl + Shift + Esc tab and find prototype2.exe Right-click it and select Set Affinity and select only CPU 0, 1, 2, and 3 Return to the game. Permanent Steam/Shortcut Fix If using a shortcut, right-click it and go to Properties field, add the following to the end (after the quotes): cmd /c start "" /affinity F "C:\Path\To\Prototype2.exe" Note: "F" represents a hex mask for 4 cores. Resolution and Fullscreen Crashes

Finish the mission segment, then you can set the affinity back to 4 cores for better performance.

Open Notepad and paste the following: start /affinity FF prototype2.exe (where FF limits it to 8 cores).

Follow these steps in order. Do not skip any.

Click , restart your computer, and try launching the game.
