The series opens with Bell Cranel, a 14-year-old adventurer and sole member of the Hestia Familia, being brutally beaten by a minotaur—a monster far above his level—on the fifth floor of the Dungeon. Just as he is about to be killed, a golden-haired, sword-wielding adventurer appears: Ais Wallenstein, the “Sword Princess” of the Loki Familia.
